The work and life of Marnie Cozzens

A collaboration between the Carolina Friends School and the Estate of Marnie Cozzens.

Marnie Cozzens was a Carolina Friends School 2011 alumna who went on to study creative writing at California College of the Arts. Marnie was a prolific writer of creative non-fiction and poetry. Marnie was a fierce advocate for LGBTQ rights and queer expression, which continues to echo through her writing.

After many years of fighting a long-term illness, Marnie passed away on May 24th, 2020, and is survived by her loving parents Benita and Dave Cozzens. Shortly before her death, Marnie's work was published in California's Best Emerging Poets: An Anthology.

This site is a dedication to Marnie and to honor her memory. Marnie's work openly explores the issues of self-image, the struggles with illness and health and serves as just one of the many countless voices and experiences of human life. May Marnie's writing help others on their journeys through life's struggles and successes.

The Estate of Marnie Cozzens created the LGBTQ Library endowment at the Carolina Friends School to honor Marnie’s memory and to provide education resources on LQBTQ life and rights.
